Abstract

The purpose of this final project is to research whether culturally unaware Home Economics students, according to pre-test data, in grade nine at Dyersburg High School show a significant increase in awareness of ethnic foods after being taught an age-appropriate multicultural unit covering six different foreign countries over a six week period. After administration of the post-test, it was found that the students actually increased their multicultural knowledge in the area of foods of the particular countries presented in the study. Therefore, this study shows that there is a definite need for teachers and students to be more aware of the cultures and customs of other countries. It is hoped that the results of this study will provide direction in helping educators integrate inclusion of multiculturalism into the educational system.
