Abstract
Taxes are always a subject for controversy. The US tax system has been criticized for being inequitable, complicated, and inefficient. Among the alternatives to the present US tax systems is the adoption of a value-added tax. The procedures used to gather information pertaining to the consideration of a VAT included researching existing VAT literature from business and accounting journals, government docuemnts, and books. This information was then applied to teh current US economic, political, and social situation. [continues]
