Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the academic performance in reading, writing, and arithmetic of selected students from three beginning first grade classes who participated in the Head Start Programs prior to entering the first grade with the academic performace of classmates who had not participated in the Head Start Program. The experimental data were to provide information that would determine to what extent these students' year-end grades were effected by the race of the student, the academic subjects which he studied, whether he had attended the Head Start Program or not, and the year in which he was enrolled in the first grade.
